I am intrigued by memory. Time passes, and I have observed that every part of life is fleeting.
We live in a world revolving around time. The only true variable in time is how much we are given.
We are creatures taught to embrace human connection, while simultaneously time teaches us to cling to nothing. Life is always moving, creating, destroying, and rebuilding.
I'm interested in the tension of these relationships; between love and loss, remembering and forgetting, creation and destruction.
Memory is subjective to every individual. I enjoy recreating and exploring the different ways humans experience memory. I look to capture the details, as well as simultaneously deconstructing them through texture, layering, and mark making, never apologizing for the brush.
My work relies on process, as i add paint i am also removing and rebuilding; creating while destroying. I want my audience to experience beauty while also portraying the reality of time. I do so by deconstruction or deterioration of the photograph or subject matter. I am always entering something that is already leaving, and that's the way i create.
Masking the reality of time takes away from the raw beauty we experience in every moment. And some of our most beautiful moments are created through destruction.
Ultimately, my goal as an artist is to preserve the seemingly un-preservable in the most honest way i know how.
